What's the core difference between DTF and UV-DTF?

DTF uses water-based pigment ink, hot-melt adhesive powder, and a heat-press transfer onto soft fabric. UV-DTF uses UV-curable ink, an A+B film system, and a cold-lamination transfer onto hard, non-porous substrates like glass, metal, plastic and wood.

Can UV-DTF print on fabric?

Technically yes, but the embossed UV-cured ink layer produces a stiff hand that's unsuitable for most apparel. For fabric, use DTF. UV-DTF's strengths are hard surfaces, curved substrates and outdoor durability.

Which has lower per-unit cost in production?

DTF has higher labor (powder, cure, press) but lower equipment and ink cost. UV-DTF has higher upfront equipment cost and ink cost but streamlined application (no heat-press station). At volume, UV-DTF wins on labor; DTF wins on consumable cost.

Do I need both DTF and UV-DTF?

If you cover both soft (apparel, totes) and hard (gifts, signage, packaging) substrates, yes - they target non-overlapping substrate categories and don't substitute for each other.
